How To Support an Indie Author
Being an indie author is amazing. I've had the ability to have full creative control over my work, making all of the decisions, the final choices, and having some mistakes to learn from along the way.
But it isn't all easy.
My struggles through this process have been two main things: formatting the book cover and marketing.
Marketing is a pain. At least for me, someone with social anxiety and severe imposter syndrome. I've had my book complimented to my face and I just sit there with awkward disbelief. (What do you mean you loved it? You want the second one?!)
Showing your support to your indie author is a great way to help with marketing. Some of these are obvious such as telling people about it, but there's some where a small impact could make a difference. (Libraries are amazing places!)
So here's a list (and photo, that you can save and share!) of ways you can help out your indie author that would also help them with their marketing.
How To Support Your Local Indie Author
Leave a review!
Leave a review on the site you bought the book from, and/or leave a review on sites such as Goodreads! More reviews are more likely to draw potential readers in.
Share their links! Tell people about their work.
Word of mouth is key for indie authors! If you go to a book club or know someone who does, suggest your indie author's book.
Hell, I've recommended my own book through my blog's Instagram account before! It gets the name out there!
Want to support them but can't afford their book?
Request their book at your local library! Not only will you be able to read it, but it gives the opportunity for someone else to see it and think "Hey, I'll give this ago!"
Libraries are an amazing place and they have apps where you can also get eBooks and AudioBooks.
Each sale for an indie author, especially new ones, is life-changing! The sheer excitement I get when I see I've sold another copy, or hear about how much someone loved the story.
If you want to find my book or know about my other projects, you can see them here!
I hope to see you again!
